I am stuck in my job, but too scared to get out. How to professionally exit effortlessly.

So, this feeling of professional paralysis is often debilitating. It causes you to throw up so many blocks like:

“My skills are only good enough for one company.”

No-one will pay me the same.”

I can’t leave now because I have no job to go to.”

I have no time off for interviews.”

I haven’t done an interview in years. Who will hire me ?!”

[Full disclosure, I felt SUPER uncomfortable writing these words as I have been there and know these feelings, I felt trapped and couldn’t get out. However, I am also proof that there IS life on the other side].

NEWS ALERT. You are AWESOME and other companies will want your skills and your personality. There is no one in the world with your skillset, personality and unique delivery. That’s your magic superpower.

The trick to get out of the rut you are stuck in? Take action. Little steps EVERY DAY. It’s that simple.

Here’s the Aristo-Chic effortless plan:

  1. Write a list of adjectives of why you are awesome. If this is too difficult, ask a friend to describe your best qualities. Write these words on post it notes and stick them all around your living space.

  2. Ask a trusted colleague to describe your best professional qualities.

  3. Write a professional wish list. Remember the bit in Mary Poppins where the children write a list of traits for their favourite nanny, then she appears ? Do it, this writing it down stuff works.

  4. Open your computer and update your CV. Ask a friend to review it.

  5. Send it out to employment agencies.

  6. Take practice interviews. If you are not interested in the job then even better – this is just a confidence building exercise in interviewing and selling yourself.  Google the top ten interview questions so you feel prepared.

  7. Take a free training workshop. Upskill in something that interests you or will add value to your CV.

  8. Refresh your external appearance. Send a message to the Universe that you are channelling your ultra confident vibe. New outfit, hair done – whatever works for you and makes you feel kick-ass professional.

  9. Journal. Start writing down each night for 5 mins what your new job looks like, the commute to the office etc, the number on your salary slip at the end of the month. The amount going into your account. Feel the joy of knowing where you were a few months ago and where you are now with the new job and new excited feelings. DO THIS EVERY NIGHT.

I know this can feel a bit scary, but try to dig deep and trust in your innate fabulousness, you WILL get another job where you feel valued and recognised ! Xx
