How to write a kick-a** report in the No 10 style format.

(Yes, I’m, talking about the English Prime Minister’s house, no 10, Whitehall Westminster)

Want to impress your colleagues/boss Aristo-Chic style? Write a kick-ass report on something in the firm where you could add value or where you see there is a problem and you have a solution.

London style-communication is the most sophisticated format, is really easy and does not need to have fancy graphics. I am talking delivering a one pager* with the following headings:

  • Purpose/Issue (the company has a problem that needs addressing/fixing)

  • Timing (is this urgent? What’s the timeline for this problem?)

  • Recommendations (that they read the paper and confirm via email if they choose Option 1,2,3,)

  • Background (what has led to this point?)

  • Stakeholders (which people are impacted by this)

  • Proposed solutions (offer two or three options to fix the issue)

  • Lines to take (do you need to draft any proactive lines for the internal or external stakeholders ? will you need to draft any reactive lines if there is a media impact)

  • Risks and Mitigations (are there any risks and how are you planning on addressing them)

  • Benefits

  • Next Steps

Et voila, you are now no 10 style professional !! Go show them how professional you are ! Xx

* A ‘one pager’ means everything on one side of A4 paper (NOT both sides). Keep this paper concise – you want to retain the interest of the audience.
