Hands up, the BEST professional advice I ever got was “It’s all about positioning” !!! Everything can be repositioned to make it sound better to you and other people – without lying ! Here’s an example.
“I hate these stakeholders – they’re so annoying!!”. Whilst you may say that to yourself internally, when you replay that back to your boss you say:
“Yes, these stakeholders have definitely been lively in some of these meetings. But it’s been a great opportunity to understand where they are coming from and what they need. So here are my suggestions for managing the situation.”
THIS repositioning of attitude is what will earn you respect and credibility professionally and make the promotion path much clearer to your boss.
