Ever felt like you were in a meeting and not sure you were qualified or credible enough to be there ? Relax – this is actually a recognisably labelled condition ‘imposter syndrome’. I’m not going to suggest for a second that you ‘fake it ‘til you make it’ – I have heard that a million times and quite frankly that sounds way too scary (!). What I am going to do is get you to remind yourself how you got there. You are in that room because you know your stuff. Still don’t feel confident? So here’s how you fix it.
- Recognise the thoughts and at what moments they come into your head
- Recite your accomplishments – get yourself a notebook and write down EVERY time you know you have done a good job and also when someone has said you did an awesome thing. This becomes your I AM AWESOME notebook – it reminds you of your brilliance.
- Humanise the room. Look around the meeting room and realise when these people are not there, then they are doing really mundane things like brushing their teeth, emptying the rubbish bins, having to deal with the mini human tantrums too (!)
Remind yourself you are awesome DAILY by re-reading your Awesome notebook. You 100% deserve to be there ! Xx
