The secret to shift your mindset

I’ve just spent half-term with my darling mini-humans and the thought of changing one’s mindset was so far from my world, the only word that had any significance was survival !!

The term ‘mindset’ is used so frequently and casually tossed around with such nonchalance like it will solve all your problems (annoyingly it will, but we’ll get to that). But for awesome working Supermums, with limited time and CONSTANT distractions, how do you actually, practically, on a normal realistic human level – do this ? !!

Firstly, let’s clarify a few things in plain English. Mindset for me, is how you perceive the world and what internal chatter is running through your head.

Secondly, the outcome you want of shifting your mindset, is achievement of your goals. What’s the missing step in between the internal chatter and achieving your goals …? Shifting to positive thinking. It is that simple.

Here’s how you do it:

Strategy to change your mindset

  • Listen to the chatter as it is going through your head.

  • Notice which thoughts are taking you down a rabbit hole towards Stress-Ville E.g. I am stressed because:
    • I need to meet a client deadline and I don’t feel focused enough,I have to take the children to the Halloween celebration tonight which is three hours out of our routine – they won’t have time to do their homework and we’ll all get grouchy,
    • Money is really tight and the tax bill is due.

  • Think about what thoughts you want to replace it with. E.g.
    • I WILL meet the deadline and deliver an awesome piece of work, which they will love me for and enhance my professional reputation. I rock !This is quality time with my children that they will benefit from and have good memories. We will make time for the home-work.
    • Money is pouring into my bank account in ever increasing amounts and frequency. [We will do a whole money mindset feature as I am aware this can be quite emotionally loaded.]

  • The very second you start to feel the Stress-Ville thoughts come in…IMMEDIATELY thank them for trying to protect you, then start repeating your new script like a mantra.
  • It may be that at first you don’t believe it, but say the words anyway. The very act of re-imprinting will start to reduce your stress around this.
      

And the secret to making this work is CONSISTENCY. Continue with re-imprinting the script DAILY (hourly if needed) and …..et voila – you are changing your mindset. Go re-sparkle those cheeky thoughts! Xx
