Firstly, as a worldclass SuperMum, let’s be clear. You are already enough. You are awesome. Your children love you. You are expertly balancing children and your career. You are a superstar !! I haven’t even mentioned all the other things you are brilliantly managing in the periphery (remembering birthdays, ordering their new shoes, coming up with creative food choices for them DAILY, ensuring bills are paid, car tax is up to date, you’ve remembered World fudging Book Day – catches me out every, single, time -, planning weekend playdate activities in advance, knowing when their sports lessons are each week and having fresh clothing for them). The. List. Goes. On…So you are knocking this out of the park AND being awesome at your job. You are a hero. Your children will see this, feel this, absorb this.
Secondly, the very fact that you are a working mum is a blueprint for your children to show them you have a strong identity outside of motherhood. You add value to society in other ways through your job. This is really important, as they need to know that you are 100 trillion per cent there for them, AND you are so awesome because of your life AND professional experiences to date.
So, the actual Aristo-Chic strategy to being a positive professional role model for your children is:
- Continue to be authentically you. Literally. Nothing. Compares.
- Get them involved. If they want to know what you are doing on the laptop, then tell them (unless you are working in the govt classified arena and then ONLY give them a very top level scenario !), talk to them about the meetings you have had that day, successes that made you feel awesome. When you had to admit you made a mistake, but you learnt from it. Teach them through your example.
They are your babies, they want to be involved in your life. They love that stuff. Bring them with you on your journey. Xx
