When this topic was raised with me, my instinct was caution. I chose to be a working mother, so how can I speak about other mothers’ parenting choices. There is such a complex discussion around being a working mother or being a full-time mother. Sometimes it is a lifestyle choice, sometimes it is an economic choice (nursery fees can be extortionate and working full-time doesn’t even cover the childcare costs whilst you are at work) and sometimes it is a cultural decision and there are just so many other reasons….
There is definitely some unconscious bias out there for women who choose the full-time mother role or the home mother role ……. and the accompanying benefits and challenges of each.
In the AristoChic network of global mums, I see all roles, and all reasons for why mothering style decisions are made. Nothing is ever black and white. Decisions are made for a multitude of reasons.
Whatever style of parenting you are currently living, then let’s be supportive of each other. Xx
