I had the most interesting conversation yesterday with a super dynamic working mum. Her energy literally sparkled. I was trying to persuade her to come onto the Just Good Enough podcast…fingers crossed, watch this space…
She talked to me about her journey. A London/Maltese mum who has been raising her son on her own for most of his life – he’s now 18. She was so open and generous in sharing how she has achieved the success of where she is now. A vibrant mother running her own business, who has intentionally set out to always be present for her child. Her attitude and energy are inspirational. If ever a challenge presents itself, she faces it head on – always looking for a creative solution.
I asked her how she does it and the one fundamental attribute that emerges is ATTITUDE. She doesn’t accept NO for an answer. Her first priority is her son, her second is financial freedom, so all roads on her life journey are headed in these directions. We talked at length about imposter syndrome, a topic she herself raised. As this is absolutely not something I was expecting to hear from her. She said that she doesn’t feel like she is an expert in her industry, but she believes in her product and she surrounds herself by people who can deliver it effectively and that gives her confidence.
Her top tips to navigate being a single working mum were:
- Know your boundaries
- Enjoy the juggle – make it into a game
- Never indulge in victim status
- Never take no for an answer
- Be clear on the vision for the end-goal
I love hearing these inspirational stories. We are all working mums just trying to make it on this journey. I find it really reassuring to hear from other mums. What’s your story? Xx
