How’s your sense of Curiosity ?

Sounds like a strange question, right ? It started from a conversation I was having with one of my mini-humans last night. We were talking about super-powers and she wanted to know what was hers. I find it fascinating, with two children how they can be sooooo different. I have one mini-human who I knew what hers was in a second – CURIOSITY, and then I got to thinking about my other mini-human who is a more complex mysterious entity and has a million things she is good at, but doesn’t like being labelled down to one thing. Sometimes our superpower is obvious, sometimes you just need a moment to reflect on what you think yours is. EVERYONE HAS ONE (or many !!).

Curiosity has shaped my life. When I first started out in my career, I wanted to understand businesses, the inside of them, what made them tick. So, I matched my core skill (communications) with a relevant career. PR was the quickest way to dive deep inside multiple businesses without tying myself to a specific industry. I got to see it initially from an agency perspective, then latterly by helping female entrepreneurs set up their own businesses. It was such an interesting journey.

Having done this for ten years, I knew I was ready for change. Following a conversation with a friend, I mentioned what I loved and how I was still curious, but didn’t know how to channel it. She suggested that I explore the world of consultancy which led me to a career in Whitehall (the political heart of London, UK). An exhilarating fast-paced environment where there is never a dull moment and I got to explore how England actually worked – mind-blowing, addictive !

I am really grateful for having such an interesting career, open to so many opportunities. But I always kept reverting back to wanting to help women find their true calling. This became more evident as my mini humans started school. Outside the school gates was the most fascinating place to be. Full of super bright women, some of whom had already chosen to remain in their career and some who had spent time focusing on raising their mini-people. Both avenues are a choice. But I found that often the consequence of choosing to stay home with the gorgeous beans led to a lack of confidence and loss of self. Heart-breaking to me. So, AristoChic was borne out of a desire to give back. The AristoChic website and Just Good Enough podcast provide a safe space for working mothers or soon-to-be-returners working mothers find like-minded people. Being a working mother is an insane ride, but one that is easier, funnier and more manageable when we share it together.

CURIOSITY is the word of this next chapter for me. I want to explore things out of my comfort zone. Am I scared ? YES. Will I become even more unstoppable as a result? Hell YES ! Girls, bring it on. What can you do today to make you feel frickin’ awesome ? ! Go, you’ve got this !! Xx
