What to do when Self-Doubt creeps in

So, as a woman running two businesses AND a mother of two mini-humans, self-doubt creeps in ALL. THE. TIME. Whilst I remind myself regularly that I rock and I am muthafudgin’ awesome – I am still human. This is normal. [Or so I tell myself – LOL!]

The doubt comes from all sorts of areas, capability, money, career progression, the source of the next assignment, retirement planning, being a better mother who actually cooks from scratch… (although, I wholly advocate forgiveness as a strategy for this – I apologise in advance to my children and I have forgiven myself for not being a good cook – not because I am not capable of good old Yorkshire hearty fayre, but because I am simply not interested in cooking – I do it purely to keep the mini humans alive !). I digress (!)

After listening to lots of working mums all over the world, here is a combination of strategies being used globally to manage the self-doubt:

  • Keep a Glimpses of Brilliance note-book
  • EFT* the stressful situation out of your energy [* Youtube a tutorial on EFT – Emotional Freedom Technique]
  • Write a gratitude list daily
  • Help someone else out – refocusing your energy to positively helping someone transforms your energy too.
  • Talk it out. I am the first to turn to the Frenchman and say, “I don’t need you to ‘solutionise’ (not a real word I know!) for me, I just need you to listen, hug me and tell me everything is going to be ok.” The subtext being, “Re-charge me, then I will figure out the next steps.”

What are your tactics for managing self-doubt when it cheekily creeps in? Whatever your strategy, remember when you next look in the mirror… YOU. ARE. UNSTOPPABLE ! Xx
